Memory Café
Our July meeting began with our usual teas and coffees, scones and cakes, then proceeded with our Welcome song and two more songs with Antony. We went on to more serious matters, with a talk by Kirsty Hall who is a Fire Safety Officer. She told us about the various matters that could lead to home fires and how we could prevent them and keep ourselves safe. A light-hearted game of ‘do this, do that’ followed, with some members and volunteers managing to avoid being caught out (and others succumbing very early in the game).
Members were given time to finish the quiz, then we gave out the prizes. We finished with two more songs, and our goodbye song.
We began our August meeting with the usual refreshments and chat and a warm welcome to six new people. Antony then led us in the Welcome song and two more songs. We were then entertained by Flukes, a lively ukulele band who are regular favourites on our programme.
After their first set, one of our volunteers, Chris, gave a talk on her life as a nurse, including some hair-raising situations. John gave the answers to the quiz and prizes were handed out. Flukes then played their second set and everyone joined in with well-known songs, after which we had two more songs with Antony.
We shall report on the September meeting next time – this will be our fifth birthday party! The following meetings are on 21 October and 18 November.
