Memory Café

Our May meeting was a games day with extra time to chat. We gave a warm welcome to new members and began with delicious refreshments and the opportunity to start the wordsearch and quiz. Once everyone was settled, we sang our welcome song and two more songs. We then moved on to two exciting sessions of bingo interspersed with a tray quiz memory game. We finished the activities with answers to the quizzes and then more songs with Antony.

In June the meeting was full of songs and sailing. We started as usual with refreshments and welcome. Anne Archer from the former Ely and Salisbury Place Tenants Association presented Janet with a donation to help support the Memory Café. We sang our welcome song and two more songs. Stephen and Barbara Burgess then gave a very interesting illustrated talk about their family research and Stephen’s great-grandfather’s first voyage from England to Japan and China. They told how the present-day Burgess family then recreated the journey in part on their boat of the same name: Philomela.

We sang two songs related to the talk, “Sailing” and “The White Cliffs of Dover”. The quiz answers were revealed and prizes given out, and volunteers and members talked about past holidays. We finished with our Goodbye Song.

Our next meetings are on 19 August and 16 September.

Trumpington Memory Café
